Now You Know: Emily White & Philippa Mo at Shortwave Nights

Soloist Emily White is a stunning musician and she can be heard worldwide as a leading sackbut player, Baroque violinist and folk fiddler..
Tonight she gives a trombone recital, with Philippa Mo on violin, 
featuring settings of poems by Brian Nisbet, a premiere of 'In Praise of P' by Rachel Stott commissioned for this concert, 'A Brief Note' by Torbjorn Hultmark and Secret House Sonata for solo trombone by John Kenny 

Emily is a member of English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, who’s 12 discs have won awards such as Gramophone Early Music Award and Diapaison D’Or and Classic FM disc of the month. Their BBC Proms Debut was 2012. She is a member of Chaconne Brass, a quintet that specialises in new music, and Pandora’s Box, a contemporary performance ensemble with John Kenny and Miguel Tantos. Emily has played for productions with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre since its opening in 1997, including tours to Chicago, Seoul, London West End and Barbados. She freelances regularly with The Academy of Ancient Music, The Gabrieli Consort, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the English National Ballet. Emily recently recorded sackbut for Paul McCartney on his current album, appeared on Eastenders playing the trombone and performed sackbut in the Edinburgh International Festival with The Tiger Lilies. Emily is a visiting sackbut teacher at The Royal Academy of Music, The Royal College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire. She directs the early trombone course at Dartington International Summer School and co-directs Huntly Summer School. Emily also teaches at Wells Cathedral School and at The Guildhall School of Music
